Anxiety Therapy

For when you’re exhausted from managing the storm inside your own mind. Specialized virtual psychotherapy with Jacqueline On, MSW, RSW, supporting adults across Ontario in quieting worried thoughts, calming a hyper-vigilant nervous system, and finding internal stability when life feels unpredictable.

When You Feel Worried All the Time

Living with anxiety is relentless. When your health or life circumstances feel unpredictable, your nervous system becomes hyper-vigilant. You might find yourself thinking:

I can’t turn my brain off.

You have trouble sleeping because your mind is just too busy. Thoughts and worries race and loop on repeat in your brain.

My body never feels fully relaxed.

Your muscles constantly feel tense and you feel restless. It’s hard to relax, even when you want to.

I’m terrified of having another panic attack.

Out of nowhere, you feel like you can’t breathe. Your chest tightens and you feel your heart racing, leaving you fearful that you might be having a medical emergency.

It’s just easier if I stay home or stay quiet.

You spend so much time worrying about something bad happening that you find yourself avoiding certain social settings, tasks, or places because of fear or discomfort.

I feel like I’m constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop.

You operate on high alert, feeling easily startled, impatient, or on edge at the smallest disruption.

I can’t focus or think clearly.

The constant worrying leaves you with brain fog, making it hard to concentrate or remember details.

About Anxiety Therapy

Anxiety therapy is a dedicated space to stop fighting yourself and start finding stability. We will focus on addressing the constant spinning of worst-case scenarios about the future, helping you move out of survival mode so you can ground yourself in the present.

In our session, we don’t view your anxiety as a flaw to be fixed or something you need to force yourself to overcome.

Instead, we recognize it for what it truly is: a highly protective nervous system trying its best to keep you safe, even if the alarm system is turned up a little too high.

The benefit of this work isn’t about eliminating anxiety forever; worries naturally arise when we care about something or face a stressful event. Instead, therapy helps you lower the internal alarm, step back from spiraling thoughts, and rebuild a sense of calm so you can move through life with confidence.

At Sunward Therapy, I offer a gentle, trauma-informed partnership to help you get there. As your therapist, I provide a compassionate, steady space for you to set down your worries. Together, we will work with both your mind and body to help you feel grounded, resilient, and back in control of your life.

How We Work Together

Our sessions offer a compassionate, adaptable space where you (not your anxiety) are in control. We honour your nervous system’s capacity each week, focusing our time together on a few core areas to help you feel steady again:

Quieting the Mind

We focus on stepping back from looping worst-case scenarios to observing them, like weather passing through. You will learn how to make room for anxious thoughts without letting them dictate your choices, building your capacity to navigate uncertainty with greater ease.

Soothing an Overactive Nervous System

Anxiety lives deeply in the physical body. For this part of the work, we will use gentle body-based practices and light acupressure tapping to directly communicate safety, helping to shift your body out of high alert.

Befriending Your Protective Parts

We will listen to your worried parts with compassion and curiosity. Anxiety often stems from parts of you trying to shield you from harm or failure. Here, we help those hypervigilant parts relax so your true self can take the lead.

Reclaiming Your Identity

When anxiety is constant, it’s easy to feel as though you are the anxiety. Together, you will learn how to separate your true self from your anxious thoughts, reconnect with your core values, and make everyday choices guided by intention rather than fear.

Our goal is to help you soothe anxious alarm signals, make room for calm, and feel confident taking meaningful action on what matters most to you.

A Safe Space to Soften and Unwind

Real relief from anxiety happens when your nervous system finally feels safe enough to let its guard down. We move gently through our sessions, always adjusting our approach to meet you exactly where you are each week.

Held online via secure, confidential video, you can settle into therapy from whichever corner of your home feels most secure. Consider this your safe harbour to slow down, release the weight of constant worry, and reclaim your life from fear.

About Anxiety Therapy

Living with anxiety is relentless. You might feel like you are constantly managing a storm inside your own mind, trapped in an endless loop of rumination. It takes incredible amounts of energy to constantly plan for the worst-case scenario. You feel like you always have to be “on,” trying to maintain control over the unpredictable. Steadily, a deep fatigue grows from the physical toll it takes on your body. You may notice anxiety showing up as a racing heart, a weight in your chest, or butterflies in your stomach.

In our sessions, we won’t treat your anxiety as a flaw to be fixed or something you need to force yourself to overcome. Instead, we recognize it for what it truly is: a highly protective nervous system trying its best to keep you safe, even if the alarm system is turned up a little too high. Your nervous system will lead the way, and we will adapt our focus to meet your specific needs in a space that is completely for you.

How Anxiety Therapy Can Help

Anxiety therapy provides you with the practical tools needed to quiet a restless mind and find stability. It helps by:

  • Quiet the disruptive, looping thoughts of worst-case future scenarios.
  • Release the heavy burden of over-planning, and build tolerance for uncertainty.
  • Provide effective tools to calm your body’s hyper-vigilant nervous system, safely shifting your mind and body out of a continuous survival or fight-or-flight mode.
  • Create a dependable sense of internal calm when external life events feel unpredictable.
  • Untangle your true identity from the anxious thoughts, reclaiming your sense of peace.

Common Symptoms Addressed

  • Continuous, uncontrollable worry and rapid, looping thoughts.
  • Physical symptoms of panic, such as a racing heart, chest tightness, or shortness of breath.
  • Chronic muscle tension, restlessness, or an inability to fully relax the body.
  • Avoidance of specific social situations, tasks, or environments due to fear or discomfort.
  • Irritability or constantly feeling "on edge" and easily startled.
  • Difficulty concentrating or experiencing "brain fog" driven by mental overwhelm.

My Approach

I blend practical, perspective-shifting tools with gentle, body-based modalities so that our work together supports both your mind and body.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): We will work on making space for anxious thoughts so they no longer dictate your choices, helping you move forward with greater clarity and intention.
  • EFT Tapping and Somatic Tools: Anxiety lives deeply in the body. We will use gentle acupressure tapping to communicate safety directly to your nervous system, lowering stress hormones and releasing the stuck emotional patterns of fear or overwhelm.
  • IFS-Informed Parts Work: We will listen to the different parts of you – honouring both the worrying part trying to protect you through over-thinking, and the exhausted part that just wants to rest.

You are the one in the driver’s seat – not your anxiety. Whether you arrive at a session feeling completely overwhelmed, or you feel steady enough to explore deeper patterns, we will adjust the pace to suit your needs in the moment.
